Embedded Terrain - Folding & Pleating with Encaustic

Learn to compose fibrous materials with folds and pleats onto panels using encaustic as a binder.

Students will learn manipulation of 2-d material to create 3-d form and compositional experience.

Students will make a collage panel

Learn to draw forms with wire, adding fabric skins and encaustic to develop small sculptures.

Students will learn to create dimension in space, wax application.

This workshop is designed to explore the possibilities of painting onto cotton-based materials with encaustic and other wet painting media. Using thin cotton sheeting and absorbent cotton papers as substrates, students will mount finished painted works onto wood panels.

Encaustic Printmaking

Expand your encaustic repertoire by building an Encaustic Printmaking portfolio! Explore the translucent medium of encaustic (hot wax) using the heated palette as a printing surface to make encaustic monotypes. This class will cover heating, mixing, applying wax to paper, as well as layering and transferring methods. A variety of tools will be used for mark making, including stencils to add texture and pattern to the prints. Tools, test papers and encaustic paint will be provided.
